Tufts Health Freedom Plan Acquired by UnitedHealthcare
An important announcement from Gerri Vaughan, President
As a follow-up to our previous communication about the sale of Tufts Health Freedom Plan to UnitedHealthcare, I am excited to inform you that the acquisition is now complete and took effect January 1, 2021.
UnitedHealthcare is dedicated to helping millions of people live healthier lives and making the health system work better for everyone. We believe these commitments and UnitedHealthcare’s breadth of expertise, combined with the strength of Tufts Health Freedom Plan’s local team, can result in even better service to you, your clients, and our members.
What this means for your clients’ employees
- As a result of the acquisition, all Tufts Health Freedom Plan members with out-of-network benefits (e.g. PPO) will now access the UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus network for out-of-area health care services (i.e., outside of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and bordering facilities in Maine and Vermont). This network of doctors and hospitals includes more than 1.1 million physicians and health care professionals and 6,000+ hospitals across the nation.1
- No other changes in plans or benefits will occur today.
- All subscribers will be notified upon close of the transaction of this network change and new health plan ID cards sent to members shortly thereafter.
- To receive in-network care, members should continue to use the Tufts Health Freedom Plan network of providers.
We remain committed to being your local New Hampshire carrier and offering best-in-class national provider access. If you need assistance or have questions, please contact your sales representative.
As always, we thank you for your continued support and business.
Gerri Vaughan, President
